Jammu, Aug 31 (KNO): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that the restoration work of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is being carried out on war-footing basis. The Chief Minister, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), inspected the highway restoration work at Maroog Ramban and Udhampur. While talking to the reporters he said that the recent heavy rainfall has caused damage to the National Highway, especially in Udhampur. "The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the respective district administrations have been asked to keep the alternative routes through, "he added. He said that he has been informed that the complete restoration of the highway will take nearly 20-25 days. Furthermore, he said that the relief has been provided to the affected people at the local level. "We have provided relief to the affected thorough SDRF, which was within our limits. In case they need more relief, we will have to seek the assistance from the centre. We will ensure every possible assistance to the affected," he said. Pertinently on Saturday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting to review the restoration works on Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other major roads damaged by the recent incessant rains. The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary Home, Principal Secretary Public Works (R&B), Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, several Deputy Commissioners, and senior officers from BRO, NHIDCL, NHAI, J&K Police and other concerned departments. The Chief Minister directed authorities to ensure swift restoration of road connectivity, smooth traffic movement and uninterrupted supply of essentials, particularly to the Kashmir Valley and remote areas of Jammu division. He emphasized the need for close inter-departmental coordination and timely updates to respond promptly to public needs—(KNO)
